We celebrate Daddy Lumba, one of Ghana’s finest veteran musicians born Charles Kwadwo Fosu on September 29, 1964, in Nsuta near Mampong in the Ashanti Region of Ghana, DL is a renowned Ghanaian singer-songwriter and musician. He was raised by his mother, Comfort Gyamfi (Ama Saah), after the death of his father, Owoahene Kwadwo Fosuh, when he was a child. His mother’s influence played a significant role in his life and career.

Daddy Lumba’s music career began at the age of 16 when he led the Juaben Senior High School choir. He formed a group called the Lumba Brothers with friends and later collaborated with Nana Acheampong in Germany to produce their first album titled “Yereye Aka Akwantuo Mu” in 1989. This album marked the beginning of his successful career in highlife music.

Over the years, Daddy Lumba has released approximately 34 albums, including critically acclaimed works such as “Aben Wɔha,” “Sika Asem,” and “Obi Ate Me So Buɔ.” His music often reflects personal experiences and societal issues, making him one of Ghana’s most influential musicians. He has also been instrumental in launching the careers of several other artists, including Ofori Amponsah.

Throughout his career, Daddy Lumba has received numerous awards for his contributions to music. Notably, he won three awards at the Ghana Music Awards in 1999 for Best Album, Artist of the Year, and Most Popular Song of the Year. Recent Developments
In addition to his musical endeavors, Daddy Lumba opened a radio station named DLFM (106.9 MHz) in September 2022 that broadcasts in Twi within the Accra area. He continues to release new music; for instance, he released a single titled “Ofon Na Edi Asem Fo” on December 23, 2022.
